Formula Student

Formula Student was started to be organized by Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) in 1981. It is recognized as the most qualified international engineering competition. Today, it is organized in countries such as USA, Germany, Italy, England, Brazil, India, Australia, Austria, Russia, Russia, Spain, Hungary, Czech Republic, China, Japan, etc.

Formula Student

Competing teams compete in 9 areas, 3 static and 7 dynamic. Participants design their own vehicles for the competition. This is sufficient for Class 2. However, teams that want to compete in Class 1 must also produce their vehicles after the design phase. During the preparation for the competition, compliance with the rulebook and the time limit of the competition is required.

Parts of the Competition and Scoring

Static Stages

Cost and Production

The cost of each part on the vehicle must be specified. Designs that can keep the cost/performance ratio down during the design phase earn teams extra points in this section. Decisions to supply or produce a part on the vehicle are presented to the jury at this stage.

Maximum points 100 points

Formula Student - Cost and Manufacturing
Formula Student - Engineering Design

Engineering Design

This section includes the design of the race car from an engineering point of view, visual design is not at the forefront. Before the competition, a short 8-page "Design Report" is presented to the jury for the judges to review and get an idea. Decisions made during the design phase of the competition within a certain period of time (usually 45 minutes - 1 hour), applied concepts, computer-aided design and analysis are included in this section. Students give their answers to the jury about what and why they did what they did at this stage.

Maximum points 150 points

Job Presentation

In this section, a business presentation is made to the jury with the logic of a professional company. The functioning and strategies of your company are presented here.

Maximum points: 75 points

Dynamic Stages

Formula Student - Endurance

Durability and Efficiency

Teams that have passed all the previous stages qualify for the endurance race. This stage covers a distance of 22 kilometers. 11 km is raced by one driver and 11 km by the other driver. At the end of the first 11 km there is a driver change. On the track, vehicles can only pass each other in the so-called "transition zone". The important thing is to successfully complete the race in the shortest possible time and with the least possible fuel.

Maximum points 250 points

Skid-Pad

In this stage the driver takes 2
laps around the 8-shaped track with a circle diameter of 15 meters. Each driver has 2 attempts. The aim is to complete this stage in the shortest time.

Maximum points 50 points with driver
75 points without driver

Formula Student - Autocross

Autocross

In this stage, the car moves on a zig zag track on an 800-meter track. Each driver has 2 attempts and the aim is to complete the stage in the shortest time possible.

Maximum points 100 points with driver
100 points without driver (DC)

Acceleration

In this stage, the car accelerates on a 75-meter long straight, initially stationary. Each driver has 2 attempts. The aim is to complete this stage in the shortest time.

Maximum points 50 points with driver
75 points without driver

Formula Student Track Drive

Part Drive(DC)

Track driving, which provides the highest number of dynamic points, sits alongside the engineering design event
, one of the main disciplines
in the Driverless Cup. Over a distance of 10 laps, the cars have to prove their endurance during long-term driving without a driver.

Maximum points 200 points

Efficiency(DC)

During an endurance race, fuel consumption or energy consumption is calculated. However, it is consumption relative to speed, not absolute fuel and energy
consumption, that is used to calculate the efficiency score. The aim is to prevent teams from driving particularly slowly in the endurance event in order to score as high as possible in the efficiency category.
